Eurofighter Typhoon Air Brake

The Eurofighter Typhoon while conduct air brake and drogue parachute braking just after landing on runway. The air braking conducted from retractable part above jet fighter's fuselage near canopy, while the drogue parachute was coming off from aft-section. This one was came from German Air Force. They have received 120 of them put of total 143 Typhoons planned. This jet fighter poses to be combat aircraft alongside with Panavia Tornado.

Speaking of air brake and drogue parachute on an aircraft, especially on jet fighter aircraft. The landing speed are varied, from 100 kts to 200 kts, that is equal to 180 kmh to 360 kmh just after touching down runway. Theoritically, this landing speed should more than stall speed, about 10 - 20 percent higher.

The objective of air braking and drogue (drag) parachute are decreasing speed of moving objects (aircraft) while they are landing. They slow jet fighter as well as provide stability during landing manuever. Particularly for aircraft which carried nearly maximum landing weight (MLW) or there is limited length of runway.

lufthansa boeing 747-8

Boeing Co. on Wednesday investors prepared for a rough 2016, forecasting lower profits than expected and fewer aircraft deliveries largely due to production changes necessary to increase production later in the decade, the news He sent its shares down sharply.

Manufacturer of the world's largest aircraft said it still sees a strong market for new aircraft despite the slowdown in global growth and low oil prices.

Boeing said it expects passenger traffic to keep the increase and announced plans to enroll Boeing 737 output to 57 per month in 2019. That would be the highest level for single-aisle aircraft such as Boeing struggles to slow progress of his rival Airbus SA. It is increasing production Boeing 787 Dreamliner series and Boeing 767 as well.

Investors focused on short-term pain, and Boeing shares to their lowest level since August 2011. sent Boeing closed 8.9 percent to $ 116.58 on the Stock Exchange in New York, the biggest decliner in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Production to Cut

The cut of one of the most popular aircraft Boeing 737 production surprised analysts who expected Boeing to keep rates rather than risk losing market share of Airbus.

Boeing last week announced a production cut at  Boeing 747-8 series, now primarily a cargo plane, which said it would keep the line going to the retirement of older aircraft collected in 2019.

Boeing also said on Wednesday it would cut output of wide-body Boeing 777 series in 2017, as it changes the updated 777X model, due out in 2020.

The cuts are probably no coincidence between the negative global sentiment, said Richard Aboulafia, an analyst with Teal Group. "In the here and now, there is reason for concern," he said.

He and others saw reductions as a sign of the difficulty Boeing has been selling the last few current models 737 and 777. They observed heavy discount at a recent sale to 737 of United Airlines.

737 Cut Out "tells me narrow-body demand has softened a bit," said a fund manager.

Boeing said it expects global passenger traffic increase of 6-7 percent annually over the long term, above the historical average of 5 percent. This would support increased production in 2017 and beyond. Traffic rose 15 percent in China in the fourth quarter and that the economy slowed giant CEO Dennis Muilenburg said in a conference call.

"Stepping up to 57 per month in 2019, continues a trend of confidence we see in the narrowbody market in particular," said Muilenburg. "This is telling us that continued to increase production to keep supply and demand in balance is what to do."

By 2016, the centenary of Boeing, the company expects to deliver 740-745 aircraft, compared to a record 762 in 2015. "It's not as if they were wildly over-produce," said Charlie Smith, chief investment officer at Fort Pitt Capital. "The backlog is 5,800 aircraft."

Its forecast for 2016 core earnings of $ 8.15 and $ 8.35 per share was well below the average analyst estimate of $ 9.43.

"This decline was certainly a disappointment," said Ken Herbert, an analyst at Canaccord Genuity. Boeing reported weak earnings for the fourth quarter, mainly due to a charge of 84 cents per share announced last week to curb the production of jumbo jet aircraft, Boeing 747-8.

SpaceShipTwo

SpaceShipTwo

Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo is to stick to initial schedule, the company unveiled the new model in a glitzy ceremony Friday in the port of air and space Mojave. The company emphasized the spacecraft is already suffering an elaborate series of tests of components in the name of security.

"Our commitment to safety can be measured in the commitment of the evidence," Virgin Galactic executive Mike Moses told the Los Angeles Times. "We tested many elements of the spacecraft, and we will examine thousands more." When ready, the spacecraft will be test flights, while remaining attached to the mothership WhiteKnightTwo before moving to the delta and motorized flights, the Times reported.

The second SpaceShipTwo, VSS Unit baptized on Friday, replacing the loss of a break in 2014, which co-pilot Michael Alsbury killed and seriously injured pilot Peter Siebold. While similar to the first spacecraft, the new features of the updated version systems according to the company were already in the works.

The second model was 65 percent completed when the first accident occurred SpaceShipTwo, according to a report from Engadget. Changes in the pitch change mechanism to prevent premature deployment - what caused the break - were made after the accident.

Air France-KLM Group has announced its first annual operating profit since 2010, beating analysts' estimates as fuel costs fell and the terrorist attacks in Paris could not hold fourth-quarter earnings. It said a payment agreement with the pilots remains crucial to remain competitive when the price of oil rises again.

Shares of the largest airline in Europe rose the most in five months after it has made a profit before interest and taxes of 816 million euros (US $ 908mil) for 2015, compared with a year-earlier loss of 129 million euros. Analysts had expected a figure of 706 million euros, the average of 10 estimates. Main arm of the company Air France is struggling to get a permanent reduction in staff costs after efforts to push through a deal last year led to violent protests.

CEO Alexandre de Juniac said that no agreement will be impossible to compete with discount airlines like EasyJet Plc in Europe and the rival Gulf of rapid growth in long-haul routes. "Despite a favorable environment created by lower fuel prices, we will not reduce our ambition to improve our competitive position, while economic and geopolitical uncertainties remain high," said CEO in a conference call.

Air France shares rose as much as 7.3% to 7.99 euros, the most since Sept. 3, before trading 6.3% higher at 7.92 euros as of 8:12 a.m. in Paris. The stock has added 12% this year. The fuel bill declined by 22% on a basis of equal footing compared to 2014, when earnings were also held back by strikes by cabin crew which cost 330 million euros.

The company reported an operating profit of 150 million euros in the last quarter, beating estimates, despite losing about 120 million euros in revenue after the terrorist attacks. Unit costs fell by 0.6% in 2015, in line with expectations in November, while below the initial target of 1% to 1.3% still indicates progress, said Yan Derocles, analyst at Oddo Securities in Paris.

"The results show that in a transition year managed to reduce unit costs and were able to exercise financial discipline and the ability to control," he said. Air France-KLM said it expects another operating profit in 2016, without providing a specific goal, guidance Derocles said was "vague".

The impact of fuel economy will be "significantly offset" by the negative impact of currency and downward pressure on unit revenues, a measure of the charges, as other airlines add seats she said. The Director General said it would continue to seek a reduction of between 0.8% and 1.2% in unit costs in 2016, with an average reduction of 1.5% in the period from 2016 to 2018, he departed from 2015 to 2017.

Management aims to revive talks employees in the coming months, with drivers yet to sign on final terms for savings agreed under the old Transform plan which expired last year, let alone the 2,020 Make Juniac says strategy is key to the future of the company. The CEO has promised that, in the absence of a breakthrough that will stop jobs, aircraft and weaker routes to reduce the plane to a size where it can be sustainable and profitable. He has already announced a reduction of 1,000 jobs after the failure of previous talks.

Bombardier and Air Canada announced the signing of a letter of intent to purchase up to 75 CSeries CS300. The agreement includes 45 firm orders and 30 options, and includes conversion rights to the CS100 under certain circumstances. Based on list prices, the order is valued at approximately USD 3.8 billion.

In a press conference held today in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Calin Rovinescu, President and CEO, Air Canada, together with members of his leadership team were greeted by Alain Bellemare, President and CEO, Bombardier Inc. Together Bellemare were Fred Cromer , president of Bombardier Commercial aircraft and Rob Dewar, vice president of program C series aircraft.

These aircraft come as part of the plan to renovate the narrow body fleet of Air Canada, it began in December 2013 with the acquisition of 61 Boeing 737 MaxS. "The renewal of our fleet of narrow-body aircraft in North America with more capable and efficient is a key to our transformation program ongoing costs -PLUS comfort element of improved passenger cabin provided by the CS300 will help us maintain the competitive position of Air Canada as the only international carrier Four star network in North America, "Rovinescu said.

Fred Cromer said the order as a "very important for the CSeries aircraft program strategic score and we are looking forward to further strengthen a relationship that spans 30 years." Air Canada and Bombardier have a longstanding relationship. To date, the regional partners Air Canada Express operate a mixture of more than 120 regional jets and turboprops. According to Rovinescu, Air Canada was "one of the launch customers for the Canadair Regional Jet, and today's announcement reflects our continued support for Canada's aerospace industry and new technologies can develop the industry."

The plan to renew the fleet of single-aisle involves the removal of 45 Embraer E190 service with Air Canada. 20 of these aircraft will be made by Boeing as part of the operation MAX 737, while the remaining 25 aircraft will be replaced by the CSeries. The Boeing 737 MAX Deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2017 and extended to 2021, while deliveries of the C series are scheduled to begin in late 2019 and extended to 2022.
According to Bellemare, order, which is one of the largest to date for the program in the C series "will be the catalyst for future orders in North America and worldwide."
Bombardier CSeries, the CS100

Bombardier CSeries, the CS100

With this agreement, the Montreal-based manufacturer has now received 678 firm orders and commitments for both variants of-the CS100 and CS300 CSeries stretched. Swiss will be the launch customer for the CS100, and the aircraft is expected to enter service in the first half of the year. Last December, the CS100 received your certification, and the CS300 is on track to receive in the coming months.

Air Canada seeks to be the first carrier in North America to operate the CSeries. Although Porter Airlines planned to rely on CSeries for its expansion, the elected liberal Canadian government reiterated its commitment not to allow the jets to Billy Bishop Toronto Airport, base and the largest center of this regional airline. In addition, this week WestJet CEO Gregg Saretski said the CSeries was "too small" for the airline, and "too big" for Encore regional operator.

A recent tour of the United States CSeries has spurred rumors in the industry about a possible order of United and Delta Air Lines. To date, in the case of States, the airline has said it could place an order for up to 50 CS100, while Delta Air Lines CEO Richard Anderson said the Atlanta-based company is "taking a look very serious "in the purchase of the aircraft. For Bombardier, the order represents a major victory for the program of the C series, tarnished by financial problems. Last October, the Government of Quebec announced an investment of USD 1 billion in the program, plagued by growing cost overruns and schedule execution two years after the entry into service (EIS).

The company expects revenues in 2016 USD 16.5 million to USD 17.5 billion, below expectations of $ 18.07 trillion of analysts. Bombardier's net loss was reduced to USD 677 million, or 31 cents per share, in the fourth quarter of USD 1.6 billion, or 92 cents per share, a year earlier. Excluding special items, Bombardier broke even, but analysts expected a profit of 2 cents per share.

Quarterly revenue was USD 5.02 billion, well below expectations of USD 5.48 trillion of analysts. Bombardier, which received cash injections from the previous pension fund Depositary et placement du Québec and the Government of Quebec, said it expects $ using free cash flow of USD 1.0 billion in USD 1.3 billion this year.

Major player of domestic airline in USA, Southwest Airlines announced plans to start flying to Airport Long Beach, in southern California. This will give it a presence in the five commercial airports in the Los Angeles area. It also means that Southwest challenge the dominance of long duration of JetBlue Airways in the Long Beach Airport.

On the basis of a noise ordinance 1995, commercial airlines are limited to 41 daily departures to the airport in Long Beach, excluding small commuter aircraft. In 2001, JetBlue saw an opportunity to make Long Beach a mini-hub, as most of these slots were not used.

As we began to expand in Long Beach, JetBlue artfully made with the 27 remaining slots of commercial airlines. Had to return briefly some of those slots, but since JetBlue has amassed 32 of the 41 slots available for large reactors. The remaining slots are distributed among several other airlines.

However, last year, officials announced that the Long Beach airport slots add nine commercial airlines, as the change in the industry again, the quietest aircraft meant that the airport was not using all their "noise budget . " This was the first time in more than a decade that a large block of such slots became available - creating an opportunity for Southwest.

Given the strategy of Southwest region covering short-haul flights, which is not so surprising that it sees an opportunity in the Long Beach Airport. Southwest applies to all nine slots, but only receive four, based on the preliminary allocation slot.

That obviously limits what you can do in Long Beach. Based on patterns Southwest services at other airports in the region, the most likely options are flights to the Bay Area or Las Vegas. No matter what Southwest, the result is likely JetBlue competition in one or more of its routes from Long Beach. JetBlue currently flies three times a day from Long Beach to San Francisco, Oakland and Las Vegas.

Luckily for JetBlue, these routes represent a very small proportion of their income. On the other hand, Long Beach has been the weakest market for some time JetBlue and new competition probably worse. The real threat is that Southwest will look to continue growing in Long Beach. That will be difficult because of the limitations of slot, but Southwest might try to grab all the slots that other airlines are willing to sell or trade, while the city could eventually be forced to raise caps flying again as jets become quieter. Southwest is unlikely to bother entering the market unless they plan to go beyond four daily flights.

Southwest's decision to start flying from Long Beach Airport therefore represents a major challenge for JetBlue could become a real threat over time. This could force JetBlue to make some tough decisions about how you want to compete in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles and Long Beach Airport in particular.

While Gogo has developed a satellite-based offering up to 70Mbps per plane, new technology so called 2KU, to be deployed to any American aircraft still solution. Now either a judge will decide on the application, or the two companies reach an agreement out of court.
